Where to stay near Chambord: choosing the right base

Where to stay near Chambord to visit the Loire Valley châteaux? It’s often the first question when planning a trip. From our holiday home in Cour-Cheverny, about twenty minutes from the most famous of the châteaux, here’s how to choose your accommodation — and why a central base changes everything.

At the foot of one château, or at the centre of the region?

There are few places to stay right next to Chambord, and they’re often in high demand. More importantly, staying at the foot of a single château would mean getting back in the car for all the others. The Loire Valley is best enjoyed by branching out: a central base is far better, one from which Chambord, Cheverny, Blois and Chaumont are all within thirty minutes.

Cour-Cheverny sits in exactly that spot. You unpack once, and each day starts and ends in the same place, with no wasted journeys.

A holiday home rather than a hotel: for whom?

For a family or a group of friends, a holiday home offers what a hotel can’t: space, a real kitchen to cook your own meals, a living room to gather in the evening, and the quiet of a house that’s all yours. With several people, it’s also often better value than multiple hotel rooms.

Add to that the comfort of a 4-star rating: quality bedding, full amenities and inspected standards.

Le Clos Amarante, an ideal base

Our holiday home sleeps 8 to 10 guests across 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, in the heart of Cour-Cheverny. From the house:

  • Chambord: 20 minutes by car
  • Château de Cheverny: 10 minutes on foot
  • Blois: 20 minutes
  • Chaumont-sur-Loire: 30 minutes
  • Beauval Zoo: 30 minutes

An equipped kitchen, air conditioning, terrace, parking and Wi-Fi complete the picture for a relaxed stay.

Our tips for choosing well

  • Favour a central location over being right next to a single site.
  • Check the capacity and beds if you’re travelling as a family or group.
  • An equipped kitchen makes all the difference on a multi-night stay.
  • Book early for the high season (May to September), when the best places go fast.

Once you’ve chosen where to stay, let our 3-day Loire Valley châteaux itinerary and our pick of things to do near Cheverny guide you.
