The house

A one-of-a-kind house in the middle of the village

Le Clos Amarante is a house filled with stories and anecdotes, ideally set in the centre of Cour-Cheverny. If you have read the Tintin albums, you may remember Sanzot the butcher’s shop, often mistaken for Marlinspike Hall – you will be staying in the very house that inspired this anecdote for Hergé.

Shops and restaurants are just a few steps away, and the Chateau de Cheverny is a ten-minute stroll from the door.

A strategic base from which to explore this magnificent region where great chapters of French history were written: Blois, Chambord, Chaumont-sur-Loire, Amboise, Le Clos Lucé, Chenonceaux, Talcy, Fougères-sur-Bièvre, Valençay… so many that a whole lifetime would not be enough.

And let’s not forget the more secret gems less than ten minutes away, such as Villesavin, Troussay or Beauregard.

Around Le Clos, the vineyards, cellars and producers set the rhythm of daily life. Here you meet passionate winegrowers and artisans of taste who tell the story of the Sologne and the Loire in their own way.

The region also offers a remarkable natural heritage: the Loire, Cher and Loir rivers, the forests and ponds of the Sologne, the Loire by Bike routes, walking trails, troglodyte villages… an ideal setting for family walks and cycling discoveries.

Designed as a family home, it welcomes up to ten guests in an elegant, refined setting: 180 m² of living space, four large bedrooms and several living areas to gather around a drink, a good dinner or a board game, or to slip away with a good book.

The patio on the ground floor and the first-floor terrace extend the house and invite stays with family or friends. Each room has its own atmosphere: family furniture, restored flea-market finds, travel mementoes…

Each one has a story to tell: the English boudoir, Artemis’s Den, the Pavilion of the Muses, Journey to the Orient, Apollo’s Refuge or the Moroccan bathroom… Come and immerse yourself in the world of Le Clos Amarante.

Why “Le Clos Amarante”?

A colour and a plant associated with Artemis, the amaranth means “the one that never fades”. A nod to Diane de Poitiers, an emblematic figure of the Loire Valley, who liked to be portrayed as Diana, the Roman goddess of the hunt and the Latin equivalent of the Greek goddess Artemis.

To stay at Le Clos Amarante is to enter a place where history and mythology echo one another – a singular atmosphere that instantly makes you want to settle in.

Le Clos Amarante, the ideal starting point to explore the finest chateaux of the Loire and discover the treasures of the region.

About us

Albane & Laurent, your hosts

Married both in life and on stage, we are Albane de Laforcade, historian and writer, and Laurent Chappey, illustrator and graphic designer.

Parisians by birth, we felt the urge to write a new chapter of our lives, in keeping with our love of heritage and our passion for history. Charmed by this house in the heart of Cour-Cheverny, we settled here in February 2026 and imagined Le Clos Amarante to share this Loire art of living with our children and grandchildren, and more widely with travellers in search of authenticity. Our own home stands just across the patio.

We designed Le Clos Amarante as a holiday retreat where you feel instantly at home: the quiet of a winegrowing village, the gentleness of the region, and the generosity of a large family house where you gather, discover and take the time to live well.

We will be delighted to welcome you, to advise you on visits, cultural outings, good restaurants, winegrowers and local producers, and to make your stay unforgettable.
